Empower Founder, Trista Okel speaks at Women of Weed Premiere in Portland

By December of 2017, reports started coming out projecting the American Cannabis industry to hit 9.7 billion in legal sales that year, an astounding 33% increase over 2016.  Current global projections are 24.5 billion by 2024.

The American Cannabis Industry has more gender parity than any other American Industry with women holding approximately 14% more leadership positions than the national average of 22%.

Mary Janes: The Women of Weed is a documentary film that explores and showcases the influence women across the nation are having on the shape of this emerging industry.

"Over half of the United States has legalized medical cannabis. Clearly we’re at a tipping point, and “The Women of Weed” could make marijuana legal nationwide, reform the criminal justice system, empower disenfranchised communities, and give lifesaving medicine to children and veterans, all while building gender equality into a billion-dollar industry. We call this the Puffragette™ Movement." - Director, WIndy Borman

The Women of Weed premiered recently at the Clinton Street Theater in Portland and Empower's founder, Trista Okel was on deck at the panel discussion with Borman, Madeline Martinez, Lisa Snyder, Leah Maurer and Sara Batterby.

If you're in the Sacramento area Saturday May 26th, the film premieres at Crest Theater. Tickets are available.
